Wolseley Wheels Mountain Bike Club

2009 Parent/Rider Program Guide

Welcome to the 2009 cycling season with the Wolseley Wheels Mountain Bike Club.

We are continually enhancing our program to bring a positive cycling experience to our members, whether they want to experience new local trails, get out with friends for a social ride, or try to improve their cycling skills with aspirations of becoming a member of the Provincial Cycling Team.

We are supported by the good folks at Woodcock Cycle. Tim and his gang can be found servicing our bikes, providing necessary cycling accessories, and helping out at races.

We will be adding the 2009 program schedule before the program commences during the last week of April.

The following items summarize many of parents/rider’s frequently asked questions:

Registration: Registration to the Wolseley Wheels Mountain Bike Club is through the Manitoba Cycling Association. (www.cycling.mb.ca)

Bikes: We will be able to make minor adjustments and repairs to your bikes at the events, however this will draw us away from our coaching responsibilities. We strongly recommend taking your bike to a trained professional to ensure you have a safe and trouble free cycling season.

Helmets: A program requirement! Helmets must be worn at all events. They must be CSA certified and properly sized for your child’s head. We can assist in fitting the helmets and setting up the straps.

Gloves/Glasses: Highly recommended for protection of hands and eyes.

Closed Toed Shoes: A program requirement! Sandals are not allowed for safety reasons.

Cycling Shorts: Recommended, but not necessary. They provide protection to sensitive areas once the rides become longer.

Tee Shirts: Once we have our club rider numbers finalized, we will order Wolseley Wheels shirts, sponsored by Woodcock Cycle Works

MCA Race Number and Race Licence: Upon registration for Kids of Mud at the Manitoba Cycling Association, you will be mailed a large plastic racing number, and a licence. The racing numbers should be attached to the handlebars of the bike prior to the first race. Tie wraps will be provided, and we can assist you with this. You will have to present your child’s licence to the race officials at each race. Please keep them with you, and write the plate number on the back of the licence for future reference.
